They must plan to make New York State their home and/or career area. Selection is based on work experience (25 percent), college activities and recommendations (15 percent), essay (30 percent) and GPA (30 percent).

Students must major in one of the following fields: chemistry, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, mechanical engineering, neuroscience, physics, chemical engineering or material engineering or science. The minimum GPA requirement is 3.0. Selection is based upon the quality of the application.
